Since it was thanksgiving last weekend, here’s a post from Neil on the subject back from 2009.
SHOULD CANADIANS BE GRATEFUL?
Today, Thanksgiving Day, the Gazette has a first-page quote from the 16th century theologian, Meister Eckhart: “If the only prayer you said in your whole life was ‘thank you’, that would suffice.”
And there is another Thanksgiving story in to-days’ paper. Padre Norman Cholette sees Thanksgiving in Afghanistan as a chance for soldiers to pause and consider how blessed their lives are compared with the hardships Afghans face:
“Abundance, freedom and security, there isn’t much of that here. In a way that should make us more aware and more thankful for the freedom and security that we have in Canada.”
I am grateful this Thanksgiving to be living in the most free and the most progressive country in the world.
What about you?
Should Canadians be grateful.
