SHOULD THE LIBERALS MERGE WITH THE NDP?

Yesterday Jean Chretien was touting the advantages of the  Liberals merging with the NDP.  He expressed confidence the  Liberals would hold their own in any merger negotiations and  that their predominantly centrist would prevail. Chretien pointed to the merger in 2003 of the Progressive Concervative and Alliance party now  in power in Ottawa

Of course Mr. Chretien does not agree with the NDP position that a majority plus one should be enough to break up- a country.  Chretien predicted the NDP would abandon this position if it ever became a government.

Should the Liberals mergee with the NDP?

What do you think?

This I would like to see!

How many of the 57 NDP MPs now representing Quebec ridings in parliament do you think would quit and join the Bloc if and when the NDP would abandon that position?

I don’t think either party would find it in its interest to suggest a merger. However, following the next election, if together they held more seats than the Conservatives I feel they should form a coalition. It’s too bad they didn’t do it the last time they had the opportunity!

I certainly think it’s time for the Liberals & NDP to merge. They are not philosophically far apart. 3rd party positions have only been serving as a spoiler.
We need 2 parties, not more…
I believe that the 50+1 is redundant.
I would like to see Harper & co. O U T, it seems to me that he promised “clean hands” & has been anything but! Harper appointed Kevin Page as Budget Officer and then did everything he could to stifle his opinions which, btw, have been spot on, although contrary to Harper’s math.
Kevin Page should be the PM!!! What this country needs is honesty & integrity.

PS: What a thoroughly unattractive photo of our ex Prime Minister. Tsk Tsk.
I agree that he wasn’t a real looker, but he appears demented in that photo.
    Pauvre Jean.

Patti, diod you mean to say something else? That made absolutely no sense.

The NDP position is “majority plus one is enough to break up the country”.
It’s redundant, because it will never happen that way, because of the clarity act, but there is such a thing as “a perfect storm”…maybe.

Don’t you find it interesting that some commentators really don’t have an opinion. They only jump into the discussion to slam and critique others’ opinions.
Take note, they are rude and/or condescending, and are too timid to lead a discussion.

I think you are mistaking the definition of redundant.
