HAVE YOU EVER BEEN BULLIED?

Eighteen per cent of Quebecers  strongly agreed with the following statement.  “I have been bullied at my school or workplace”.

That figure was about the same as the national average.

Only one per cent of Quebecers admitted they had bullied others by word or deed.

When I  was going to a Catholic school in the thirties, I had to cross a bridge to get back home.  A young punk named Turner started to wait at the end of the bridge to pummel and hassle me.  It was scary.  Finally my father went to see the bullies’ parents and it stopped.  What a relief.

I was bullied in primary school for being a godamn foreignrer. I used my mackinaw belt very effectively and that was it.
In classic college, I was threatened with physical violence. I gave a letter to the superior to be opened should anything happen to me. The day something would have happened, three teachers happened to pass by. Game over.
Later on I was taken to task because of my Greek name. Every time I confounded my detractor. Once i was told that Greeks were beautiful but I was not. I shut back:”I can’t help it, my mother is French Canadian”. That guy went out of his way not to cross mine afterward.

Quebec has passed a law to punish bullies. A good thing I think.

I was bullied as a child in grade school. One day I had to go buy something at a nearby shoe store and half of the school followed me to beat me and my friend up.
I was scared but I asked the owner of the store if we could leave through a back door. We did and I do not remember if we had more trouble after that.

I discovered something early on: if you are being bullied, punch the bully on the chin They stop bullying very quickly after that.

But I suspect bullying has been going on since Adam and Eve. What exactly are we as a society going to do about it? There is a pecking order in many areas of society and “bully and prey” are yet another example. I am afraid that if we try and outlaw it or get involved in some way that we will just make matters worse.

I don’t remember ever being bullied, and I don’t recall that was a problem in the many schools I attended in my day.
My husband does and did what Tony suggests above (to a huge guy). Shocked him I guess, and even bullies don’t like to get hit.
