Quebec patents, politicians and music lovers are outraged that an elementary school music teacher chose to censor part of a song by French musical Edith Piaf because of a reference to God.  In preparing for  a concert by 11-year-olds the following line was cut, “God reunites those who love each other.”One liberal cabinet minister says this amounts to outright censorship.  The school board defended its action by saying it was preferable to study the issue of God at home or in school in an ethics course.

Does this seems like censorship to you?

Should God be cut from song?

What do you think?

    Heidi Gulatee Says:

I do not understand why the teacher just did not choose another song. Problem solved.

  2. 2

    It certainly seems silly!

  3. 3

She may not have had a choice in the matter, Heidi.

But songs have been rewritten by performers for as long as they’ve been written. I do it myself. Parents and politicians should just calm down about it, and music lovers should know better.

I think that schools have been thoroughly confused beyond reason.
In their efforts to be politically correct, they are being “krazee”.

Kids today are listening to Rap music that refers to all sexual behaviour, abuse and bad language. I hardly think that the word “God” would do any damage.

Patti, it’s not just kids today whose music is filled with sexual references. Do you remember a tune called, “In the Mood?” The title used to be, “Hot and Bothered.” It has lyrics. Look them up, sometime.

    Or anything by Cole Porter.

  6. 6

AH, yes, I remember “in the mood” and love it to this day.
Some of the music now- it’s not just references- It’s right out ” F— the Bit–“.
And talks about beating women. Of course it’s for shock value, but I resent that so much is directed at young women- i.e.: “baby momma” I hate that term!
I was in Sears-Mtl and music on the system was down right filthy…either someone didn’t understand the lyrics, (English) or had played it for a joke! Customers standing in the aisles looking at each other “did I hear that???” 🙂

With all this talk of sexuality, you’re giving me the vapors。
