SHOULD LORD BLACK BE BACK IN JAIL?

Most of the charges against Lord Black have been tossed out.  He has already served 29 months in jail.  He is 66 years old and his health is precarious.  One of his lawyers at Friday’s resentencing hearing in Chicago argued that Lord Black had suffered enough.  He’d lost his newspaper empire, he has high blood pressure,an irregular heartbeat and early signs of skin cancer. Lady Black, 70, also has heart problems and other health issues.

Lord Black and his legal team expected that  Judge Amy Ste Eve would sentence Lord Black to time served and release him. Lord Black himself addressed the court.  “I believe that life is a privilege and that almost all challenges are in part an opportunity.  I have learned to take success like a gentleman and disappointment like a a man.”  The judge then ordered Black back to prison for 13 more months.

As soon as the judge delivered her sentence, Lady Black collapsed on her front row bench.  She lay there for several minutes while a small group of people tried to calm.  She was able to leave the court room on her husband’s arm.

Considering what he has suffered already, what or who is served by sending Lord Black back to the slammer?   Is this justice or is it torture?

When Lord Black finally gets out should he be allowed back into Canada.  (Remember he lost his citizenship)

What do you think?

Firstly, I don’t think Black “lost” his citizenship; if I remember correctly he purposely gave it up in order to get his knighthood.

Secondly, I don’t think he should have been in prison in the first place. If money can’t buy you a “get out of jail free card” what good is it?

Criminals are not allowed entry into Canada. But hookers acting as pole dancers, mostly from Romania, are allowed.

If I remember, Chretien cancelled Black’s citizenship.

Jim, thetee is a court case in Ontario that could make prostitution legal. Then ladies from Rumania or anywhere will be all set.

Lord Black (Conrad Black) should not have been charged- Obviously if all but one was tossed out. This is the court trying to prove it has teeth. Okay, they’ve made their point! It was unfair, and he should be set free and allowed to travel where ever he wants. They’ve tried hard to kill him and almost succeeded. He’s not a war criminal for goodness sake!

    littlepatti,

There is much in what you say. Sadly for Black he raan up against a prosecutor in Chicago – Fitzgerald – who was determined to put him behind bars and did. Also sadly for him he must get a new Canadian passport and our government does not give passports to convicted felons.
