Can you believe that the phony financier, Donald Trump, is close to the top of the GOP candidates getting ready to challenge Obama in 2012?  And not only that.  Trump’s big issue is that Obama was born in Kenya and is not really an American.  Trump also does not believe Obama wrote his first book.  Some left wing ghost writer did it for him.  There is not a scintilla of evidence advanced to back up either of these assertions.

Obama himself was asked about the ‘birther’ issue by A.P.  He replied the vast majority of Americans believe that he is an American.  And he added that if the ‘birther’ is all his opponents have got, he must be in pretty good shape.

Exactly the point.  If a joker like Trump can get to the top of the GOP greasy pole by playing the ‘birther’ card, then Obama is a shoo-in for 2012.

The ‘birther’ issue hurts those who espouse it.  It does not hurt Obama.

The issue also reveals what a jumble of mediocrities are trying to take Obama on.  In a poll published in today’s Washington  Post Obama beats every single one of his opponents.  Of the two at the top he beats Romney by six and Huckabee by four.

So much for a one-term president.  Not bloody likely.

Whom does the ‘birther’ issue hurt?

What do you think?

    Johnny Says:

    Hi Neil,
True that Barack beats his opponents quite notably, for he is a fierce force to reckon with. Over and above that, the mass of man lead lives of quite desperation, maybe the deperation of those that seek to pull the man down can’t be quite anymore. Frankly I think all that the accusers say amounts to jabberwocky, and sinks into perfect insignificance, that is untill and if, a huge “IF” they find evidence of their assertions. Obama is the American dream, our (Africa’s) gift to the United States. And that’s what we yearn for in our leaders today, that most elusive quality of AUTHENTICITY-of being who you say you are, of being true to character, and of possessing a truthfulness that goes beyond words. Ayeye Obama Ayeye !

    Neil McKenty Says:

    No truer words ever spoken.

Romney is about as authentic as Sean Hannitty.

  3. 3

Please recall that the “birther” issue started with neither Trump nor the Republicans.

It was initiated by Democrats who supported Hillary Clinton during the nomination campaign.

As for the birther issue itself, it is a non-issue for me. Why? Because even if true, Obama can hardly be blamed for it. Sure, he was “there” when he was born but his being born in Kenya part would have had to require him being in on it pre-natally and, gosh, that’s reaching it, even for the “annointed one”, don’t you think? Until Obama was, say, 8 or 9 years old, I don’t think he was Machiavellian enough to plan any kind of future “I’m going to be president” conspiratorial moves.

I do think Neil is unfair calling Trump a phoney or a mediocrity. I am not a big fan of Trump’s and, indeed, question his claims for his net worth being in the billions (he may, indeed, have a negative net worth). But compared to Obama’s accomplishments and personality, Trump is Jesus Christ Incarnate. Obama had nothing prior to being elected president other than being a state senator (where he had little on his voting record to indicate anything brave or outstanding) and even less as a U.S. senator. So by the same standards Neil appears to be judging Trump, the community organizer comes out even worse. Obama is worse than being a phoney or a mediocrity; he is a war-monger and a very, very poor handler of government finances (and I’ve got 1.6 trillion reasons for saying so).

If Trump is Jesus Christ Incarnate, the Tea Party is even worse off than I thought it was.

Mr. Trump is a joke. In a way, I can see why he is using this bogus issue to promote his bogus campaign. He represents nothing, but his own ego.

I blogged about the birther nonsense some time ago, long before Mr. Trump decided to offend us with this again. I secretly hoped that I was blogging about a soon to be dead issue, but I was wrong.

There are real issues out here for those of us who can not fall back on millions of dollars, or come out of repeat bankruptcies (and divorces) with luxury lifestyles. Mr. Trump knows little of us little people.

    Randall Marlowe Says:

3 Marriages and bald ( but not willing to admit it), a couple of business failures, trouble with a Gaming Commission, a Buffoon, yeah , he is a prime Repealican Pres. Candidate. Just look at the others lining up. We can even dump Obama and finally get Hillary in and with Bill’s expertise, get the Country back on track again. On another tack I doubt there will be many Repealicans in Congress after the next election. When your Party has no direction or plan, don’t vote for them. And remember Liberal comes from Liberty and Conservative means maintaining what you have and nothing more. Randall J. Marlowe, Buenos Aires

Who is this left wing nut case Neil McKenty? I’ve never heard of him. He must be a nobody who wants to be somebody by kissing up to Stupid Obama and George Soros. He says the birth certificate is unimportant. So. does that mean the Constitution is unimprtant. Is it unimportant that we have an alien muslim socialist in the Whate House who hates the United States and with his godfather Soros is trying to bring the downfall of the greatest nation in the history of the World. Obama sings praises for all of the muslim holidays but can’t say anything good about Easter. He makes an ass out of himself after asking for civility then blasts Paul Ryan because he doesn’t agree with Ryan’s budget plan. He is acting like the main character of “Ferris Bueler’s Day Off.” He doesn’t have the knowledge of American culture to make reasonable decisions and blasts away with socialist dogma: income redristibution, tax the rich. Why doesn’t he tax his buddy Soros who pays no taxes while hiding his weath in Curacio and tries to runt the Democratic party from the shadow?

    Stephen Says:

Obama wins this issue by a mile. The longer it goes on, the better it is for him. Why do you think that he has been intentionally ignoring the issue. If he felt for one moment that it would hurt his efforts, he would have had Hawaii release the birth certificate and put it to rest for once and for all.

But no. Thanks to the lunatics in the Republican party, this thing continues on. It diverts the Republicans from serious issues and serious differences with Obama.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Obama hopes that the matter remains alive until just before the first Tuesday of November, 2012. By then, the Republican fringe will have been making complete fools of themselves with this issue. They will have hopefully picked a candidate who is forced to pick up on the issue. Then, just before the election, Obama will bring out the certificate and leave the Republican party with egg on its face.

  10. 10

I’m changing my mind slightly on this issue…as a result of seeing Anderson Cooper interview Donald Trump the other day.

There are, apparently, two kinds of birth certificates: the original one issued at birth and then a “live” birth certificate that one can order from the government. Both legitimate, the “live” one is newly created. But in order to see the original, permission must be granted by the birthee. And according to Trump, Obama is not giving his permission for the world to see the original, which leads to the question: what is on there and why doesn’t Obama just simply release it to the public.

Some speculate that it gives “Muslim” as Obama’s religion.

    iza Moreno Says:

It will be nice if someone mention all the good things President Obama
has done they sure outway the wrong they think he did. oh! Please tell
Trump he is in enough trouble in Panama insulting the Panamenians. He
needs to use that eneergy to help someone who needs help. Let me see
one think he did for the American People check Obama background

    joe agnost Says:

Tony wrote: “Some speculate that it gives ‘Muslim’ as Obama’s religion.”

Why would that be a problem? Do you honestly believe that a new-born baby can choose his religion? Would that automatically make him Muslim?

The idea that children are a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, scientologists, etc. is ludicrous…

  13. 13
    joe agnost Says:

Oh look! Obama decided to finally put the retards out of their misery and has released his ‘long-form’ birth certificate… damn, this had the potential to continually dog the tea-partiers/republicans for several more years!!

In case anyone is interested, here’s Donald Trump (AKA the Moron, er Donald) thoughts on the long-form being released:

“I am really honored to have played such a big role in hopefully getting rid of this issue.”

“I have accomplished something nobody else has accomplished.”

So instead of being (rightfully) embarrassed about his role in this he’s wearing his role like a badge of honour!! What a moron.

  14. 15

“Some speculate that it gives “Muslim” as Obama’s religion.”

Not possible. No one is born with a religion. Birth certificates can only record immutable information, and religion is a choice, not a condition.

  15. 16

It would be a major problem for Obama if the birth certififcate said he was a “Muslim” (which it doesn’t because Obama finally released it). It would put Obama in a very dangerous position in the Muslim world as an apostate subject to all sorts of physical danger.

  16. 17

Lady Janus: people are mos certainly born with a religion in the Muslim world…and leaving Islam for, say, Christianity (as Obama has done) puts him, legally and religiously, at great risk in the Muslim world, a place where he must, as president, visit.

  17. 18
    Neil McKenty Says:

You say Obama left Islam for Christianity. What is the evidence for that statement?

  18. 19

    Neil asks me:

You say Obama left Islam for Christianity. What is the evidence for that statement?

Let me clarify what I meant: within the context of both Islam and the way Islamic law is set out in many Muslim countries, Obama left Islam for Christianity because he was born to a Muslim father and then became a Christian.

From our perspective in a Christian country, Obama is Christian because that is what he chooses himself to be.

That Obama is an apostate under the eyes of Islamic law in many Muslim countries puts Obama at physical risk.

    dotty Says:

im an african not an obama fan at all, come from botswana our president is biritual, we never humiliate him by asking him to produce birth certificates, its just sad

  20. 21

“…people are mos certainly born with a religion in the Muslim world…”

We do not live in the Muslim world, and neither was Obama born there, so it’s a non-issue.

  21. 22

No, Lady Janus, we do not live in the Muslim world but it was/is a real issue because of the fact that Obama’s father was Muslim…and it potentially created/creates a very real diplomatic problem for Obama and the United States in the Muslim world (over a billion people) because of it.

And that’s not me saying it, Lady Janus; it’s the experts. And no less an august body than the New York Times felt it was important enough that they allowed one of those experts a forum in their paper for an op/ed piece back in 2008 to address the issue at the time that Obama was running for president. The following is just an excerpt from the piece (which I encourage you to read in its entirety) found at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/12/opinion/12luttwak.html?pagewanted=print :

In Islam, however, there is no such thing as a half-Muslim. Like all monotheistic religions, Islam is an exclusive faith.

As the son of the Muslim father, Senator Obama was born a Muslim under Muslim law as it is universally understood. It makes no difference that, as Senator Obama has written, his father said he renounced his religion. Likewise, under Muslim law based on the Koran his mother’s Christian background is irrelevant.

Of course, as most Americans understand it, Senator Obama is not a Muslim. He chose to become a Christian, and indeed has written convincingly to explain how he arrived at his choice and how important his Christian faith is to him.

His conversion, however, was a crime in Muslim eyes; it is “irtidad” or “ridda,” usually translated from the Arabic as “apostasy,” but with connotations of rebellion and treason. Indeed, it is the worst of all crimes that a Muslim can commit, worse than murder (which the victim’s family may choose to forgive).

With few exceptions, the jurists of all Sunni and Shiite schools prescribe execution for all adults who leave the faith not under duress

All I can say is “The Donald” has got his NERVE!!!! His bad character should be as obvious as the nose on all Red Blooded Americans face, how he left his mail order bride (Not BORN in the United States, but whom HE… BOUGHT and BROUGHT here) and family high and dry to fight for any care from him, for his highly publicized, Gold Diggin’ Mistress !!! At least it is quite evident that President Obama (notice I addressed him accordingly, not as FOX NEWS does ( as Mr.Obama) has LOYALTY not only to his family but to his country!!! So, Donald…GET “YOU”… some business that don’t pertain to President Obama (notice I addressed him accordingly, not like FOX News does as Mr. Obama (another gripe for another day) ) and stop your Meddlin’!!!!

    Ron Payne Says:

Obama on notifying American citizens that he had released his Birth certificate for public perusal, said the following: “I am puzzled and amused” by the publics reaction regarding his Birth certificate.
Personally I am puzzled how he ever became the President of the USA.
One does not need much grey matter to realise that people would react to the length of time he refused to display his Birth certificate, so why the puzzlement? Is he that brainless? Could he not see or realise that it would create a controversy? Then saying that their reaction amused him. Is he amused that an American soldier lost his position and rank? Is he amused that an unknown amount of American dollars has been wasted in attempting to clear the issue of his Birthright? Is he amused that the courts had to waste their time rejecting complainants
request to allow the Birth Cerificate to be displayed?
To my mind this Puzzlement and amusement, of the President of the USA shows poor insight and stll leaves me wondering how he ever attained the position of President. I trust that voters in 2012 will consider his ridiculous statements very carefully and his blindness to simple facts.

  24. 25

    Well said, Ron Payne!

  25. 26

Thanks for posting this good article!

  26. 27

“…because of the fact that Obama’s father was Muslim…”

I don’t know if he was or he wasn’t, and it does not matter, either way. Religion is not genetic. You cannot pass it on to your children. I don’t care what “experts” you quote.
