Early this afternoon the Harper government will be defeated on a vote in the House of Commons.  Then, probably tomorrow morning, Harper will visit the Governor-General. By Sunday morning the leaders’ planes will be in the air heading for the hustings.

In a poll published this morning it would seem that it’s Harper’s election to lose.  The Conservatives are now supported by 43 per cent of the voters.  They have a 19 point lead over the Liberals who are on 24 per cent.  The NDP is at 16 per cent and the Bloc has 10 per cent.

If these figures were to hold up during the six-week campaign, Harper would  win the election with a comfortable majority.  At dissolution of Parliament,  the Tories had 143 seats.  They need to win just 12 more to reach the 155-seat mark and get a majority government.  Harper has his eyes on 13 more seats – in the suburban area around Toronto and the periphery around Vancouver.

At this point, I  confess I  don’t know a single person who is planning to vote for Harper.  And this despite his very good record on the economy. We are the best-off nation in the G20.

The problem is nobody I know trusts Harper with a majority.  They figure he would then bring out his secret agenda (abortion, same-sex  marriage, etc) and carpet bomb Canada back into the stone age.

In addition, most people don’t like Harper.  They think he is a narcissistic control-freak.

Do you trust Harper?

Should Harper get a majority?

What do you think?

I have no use for Harper, although I would otherwise be predisposed to vote for him if he didn’t support the race law/hate law Bill 101.

Brent Tyler tells an interesting story about Harper, whom he used to know, on the following video:

    Eric starblanket Says:

A Harper majority would be a complete disaster for Canada. The mess he has created in the last 5 years will take years to fix. His mismanagement of the economy, no vision, total contempt for Parliament and the Canadian people makes him in my opinion the WORST PRIME MINISTER IN CANADIAN HISTORY.

If you say you don’t know anybody who will vote for Harper, it should tell you that its time to break out of your cacoon.

    James Tupper Says:

Ironic isn’t it, some in the media told us that a minority government would get things done because the parties would be forced to co-operate.
But the only co-operation has been by the losers in their efforts to repeatedly bring down this government and to run up over a billion dollars in elections cost that taxpayers must now pay for.
So what we really got was very little co-operation and a huge bill.
It looks to me like it’s time for a majority government.

I might not like Harper much, but the record speaks for itself.
Our economy is in pretty good shape while most of the rest of the world struggles economically. Harper has tried to keep most of his election promises, and would have had the others co-operated as we were told they would have to.

On the other side we have Iggy. The man who would rather live in the USA. Odd too how in his book he tells of how his family came to this country as millionaires but on the campaign trail he claims the came here with nothing. Not the sort of man I would trust.

And of course there is smiling Jack. What to say?

So as far as I can see, Harper may not be what I’m looking for, but right now there is no viable alternative and he has been doing a decent job.

I say give Harper a majority and lets see what he can really do.
That is, what can he do without Iggy And smiling Jack trying their best to prevent him from proving himself to be a good leader. After all, we know for sure that Iggy and company would be a big mistake.

I totally agree that Harper should have majority. He has kept this country from going into a recession and the idiot of the liberals wants to go back to US .ay kick him out but for good this time.

    Bob Bruce Says:

I’m happy with the Harper government. I think it’s time to see Harper with a majority. I do not like Iggy he needs to go back to the states.
